distribution
company was in dire need of a driver. In anticipation
of the criminal history and driving record coming back
with no problems, an individual was put to work immediately.
The first day on the job the new driver struck and killed
a pedestrian. During the accident investigation it was
determined that the driver was legally impaired from drugs.
In addition, the criminal history report confirmed a conviction
for possession of drugs. The driving record showed that
there was no valid drivers license and that it had been
previously suspended. As you can imagine a lengthy negligent
hiring court case ensued. |

large
national financial services company hired an individual
to work in their insurance division, responsible for underwriting
life insurance. During the interview, this individual
assured the company that he had the experience and education
to handle the position. No background investigation was
conducted prior to hiring. Due to several “mishandled”
insurance policies, which resulted in losses to the company,
an investigation was conducted. As it turned out, the
individual did not have the educational qualifications
or training to handle the position as he represented.
This company now has a policy, which requires complete
background checks on all potential employees prior to
hiring. |
